Hi,

Subject: Re: Maintainer creation request

Hello,

Can you please provide us with a list of address space/domain objects,
currently in the RIPE database, the new maintainer is going to
protect?

The reason we're asking is: we have a policy to only allow maintainer
objects to be created when they actually protect address-space
(inet-num, aut-num, inverse DNS domains) or domain related objects.

Letting everyone have a maintainer object that only protects their
person object, would create a messy situation in the database. Also we
believe that is not the objective of the maintainer scheme and a
'notify' attribute on the person object would be easier & effective
enough.

We don't give maintainers for the sole purpose of protecting
unreferenced person objects.

If the admin-c and tech-c objects of the maintainer you requested are
only referenced in *.de domains, please note:

As part of the process of moving *.de domains from the RIPE Database, on
June 20, 2000, following discussions with DENIC, we agreed not to create
any more maintainers for person or role objects which are only referenced
in *.de domains.

Please contact DENIC (hostmaster AT denic.de) if you need further information
about this issue.

The maintainer requests will still be processed for person or role
objects referenced in address-space related objects (inet-num,
aut-num, inverse DNS domains), or in non-DE domains.

All the unmaintained person objects referenced from German domain objects
are in the process of being maintained by DENIC-P, the DENIC maintainer
for person objects. This is a procedure requested by DENIC itself.
Currently there are about 15,000 such objects in the RIPE Database and
all of them will be protected by DENIC-P maintainer.

This step is essential because the setup of DENIC database is planned to
be done in two phases:

o first moving domain objects,
o and then moving/copying person/role objects.

If you have any more questions, please don't hesitate
to contact <ripe-dbm AT ripe.net>.

Regards,

Marek Bukowy
