As part of ICANN’s 69th community meeting, DENIC cordially invites you to a virtual tour of the Smart City Hamburg on 20 October, between 14:30 and 15:30 UTC! Journalist and presenter David Patrician will take you to the sights of the Hanseatic city. You will listen to live music from the clubs of St. Pauli and get to know digital Germany.

Ready for a challenge? Test your knowledge in a live online quiz specially designed by Tom and Darren when our tour stops at Hamburg’s favorite quiz pub, Aalhus. With some wit and a little luck, you might win a night at Grand Elysée Hotel (https://www.grand-elysee.com/en/), in close vicinity to the Alster river.

Domains, DNS, digital infrastructures, and Germany’s number one Smart City: These will also be the topics of the discussion round with DENIC CEO Dr. Jörg Schweiger, Chair of the Board of eco – Association of the Internet Industry, Oliver J. Süme (https://international.eco.de/), and Dirk Krischenowski, Managing Director of Hamburg Top-Level Domain (https://nic.hamburg/).

About ICANN and ICANN69

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is a non-profit organisation that is responsible for the global coordination of domain names and IP numbers. This way, it makes a key contribution to the functioning of the Internet.

From 13 to 22 October 2020, the Annual General Meeting of ICANN is held as a virtual conference, supported by .de manager DENIC, eco – Association of the Internet Industry, and the City of Hamburg. Participation in the conference is free (https://69.schedule.icann.org/).

Originally, ICANN69 was planned to be held as a face-to-face meeting in Hamburg with about 2,500 attendants from more than 120 countries. Due to the coronavirus pandemic the event was transferred to digital space.

The main topics of the plenary sessions at the ICANN69 Virtual Annual General Meeting will be “The Domain Name Business: Everything You Want to Know, Ask or Discuss”, “DNS Abuse: Consideration of the Issues” und “WHOIS Changes Under GDPR: Impact to End-Users and Public Safety”.
